Fall Porch!

Hello Hello, how are ya!  I'm doing just fine today. It's been a long week so far. I have been doing alot to get ready for winter :( :(. Painting, painting, cutting bushes, painting, cleaning lawn equipment, and did I mention painting. Inside and out, we have ugly, hideous, window trim. I mean its nice, its just stained. Not my style, I like clean, white, window trim, and I am FINALLY getting to it, little by little.

Anyway,  I have been working on the front porch for a couple weeks. Making sure I have all the right things in the right places. I'm still not 100% with the table, I think there are two many legs going on everywhere. But that's just me being OCD. Be sure to check out my fall mantle here.
 Here it is:

I took these in the evening, so the sun was shining right onto the porch. I think it makes for a great photo, even though there are shadows everywhere.
The hay bales are from Michael's and the lantern from Kirkland's. :)
My summer flowers, hanging baskets, did so well up here this year that I cant just get rid of them yet. Hence the big purple bushes in the top of this picture. :) I also hung a candle chandelier
I also added the concrete planters on either side of the doorway. I got these at Lowe's for about $17 each. Let me tell you I can even lift them, solid concrete. They will be staying there for a while :)

Lets all remember the before:

Some new additions to the mantle!

Hi All, hope you had a great weekend. I went to our local pumpkin patch this weekend and picked up some awesome white pumpkins to add to our mantle and I think they add a nice touch. I have just finished the front porch and I think it looks great. That will be coming soon. You can check out my previous post on this here.

Here are a few photos:

Evolution of design...A Fall Mantle

We all know I have design add, I changed the family room again!  Twice actually, my husband is ready to kill me, :) :).  Anyway, I will be showing you that again after a few more posts about other things. I literally can’t even stand it myself right now. Ever since we moved in to this house that room has been a nightmare, never really came together like the others.  My mom says I need to paint, and then it will come together. Completely shocked myself with this one, never thought I would end up with something like this.

Fall is one of my most favorite times to change things up. I love the colors, the cool days, and the green grass. I swear fall is the best time of year. I always get super excited this time of year because as far as decor goes, there is so much of it around. All different types depending on your taste. Eclectic, traditional, whimsical, and even classic.

My advice is always to choose 1 style. Don't just pick things you like because it will, most likely, never come together quite right. Also, colors, my rule is 2 main colors and if I'm brave a 3'd accent color. I.E. my master, cream (main), gray (secondary), brown (accent).  To many more than that it will become cluttered and "noisy". My last main piece of advice is size of accessories. Think of a accessorizing a room like you accessorize yourself, less is more.  I.E a mantle should make a statement. You should be able to see it and everything on it from 10 feet away or more. Otherwise from that distance it will just look like a pile of junk.

So there you have it, you’re an expert now right?? Anyway, here is my transformation from summer to fall, in a few places...

Sorry can only show you the table, the room is in the middle of a slight transformation, don't want anyone seeing just yet!!  I think it’s kind of early for fall decorating, I think October is a good month to start but I just couldn’t wait!  I should want to wait because after fall comes winter, :( and all that snow for 6 months :( :(

Hope you have a great rest of your week!

New chair, nightstands and bench

Hello! Hello! Hope you are having a great week. The family room accessory update is complete (for now)!! I remembered I had some small accessory updates in the master bedroom. When I showed you the spare bedroom redo here I told you that I took the chair from the master bedroom. Well that left me with a gaping hole in the wall. I was used to sitting in it and watching TV or putting my socks on and my husband was used to throwing his dirty clothes on it :)  So I had to find a new one, I didn't want to spend a lot of money and I knew it had to be comfortable. So I went to my local furniture store, thinking I was going to pick up a clearance or "last one" type of deal. But as I was walking around I saw this cute little chair that would be perfect. I was so excited, and it was only $150. I thought that was a good deal for an armchair.
Of course this caused a spiraling of changes. The chair is cream, but almost gray undertones. So of course the rugs didn't work anymore, and I took the bench/ (whatever it is) and put it at the foot of the spare bed. So I wanted a bench as well. I picked one up and Kirkland’s for around 40 bucks. It is zebra, which I’m not a fan of, but for 40 bucks I can recover it. So after that, I also took my old nightstands and put them in the spare bedroom. They look much better in there. better height for the bed, good fit all around. As I was browsing for the chair I stumbled across some end tables with drawers. They already matched my dresser and armorie so I had to get them.  I’m all about saving a buck but "eclectic" mismatched bedroom furniture is not my style. I think things look neater and more sophisticated when the furniture is all of the same collection.

Before: Which is after the "mini" update, you can read about that here

yea these pics are with an iphone, sorry :)

After:

Much better with my new Nikon :) :)

I now think the zebra bench adds a little spice to the room. It works much better with the new rugs. I did get new ones to match for the attached master bath:

Family Room Finished! (For Now)

I know its been a while, but I have been busy. This project was supposed to be quick, yea right!  If you know anything about me then you know I tend to obsess easily as well as demand perfection. I've been called a perfectionist a few times in my day!  I don't think there is anything wrong with perfection, however, I can interfere with daily function sometimes :)

So in my first post to you I told you that I hated my family room. I guess "hate" is a really strong word. It was more dysfunctional and not "perfection", you know, what I'm always looking to accomplish. I also told you that I could change it for about 200 dollars. Well 200 was a bit steep, I am at about 300 dollars, more like 275. But I think the extra was worth it in the end. I never knew how hard a "perfect pillow" search would be. Seriously, I feel like pillows were consuming my life <--- weird. Anyway, I took a ton, like a gaaaaaazzzzillion photos. Here they are:

You remember the before:

And here it is now:

I feel like it is more cohesive and better put together. Im still not 100% with it, but for 300 bucks, all new accessories doesn't seem so bad.

Have a great rest of the week !!
