Hey All, how are you doing! I'm still recovering from the Christmas holiday, sometimes its so stressful its really no fun. My husband and I decided, this morning, we are going to the Bahamas next year!

Yeaaaaaaa right, we'll see about that.

Anyway, as I wrap up the year I keep seeing everyone in blogland doing a best of 2011. I started this blog back in April. I am so touched with all the comments and well wishes I have received from people I have never met before.  I love looking back at the last 8 months and seeing all the progress that has been made around my house. I love this blog and I can't wait to see what next year brings!

Holiday Home Tour

Here it is, after looking at these pictures I sigh. This time of year is exhausting. Not only do I decorate alot but the parties, gift giving, cooking, baking and I don't even have children yet!  But I love it, I wouldn't change it, I may change my mind when I have to put it all away again.

As a first year blogger I have to say we as Americans have some talent!  It's not easy taking things and making them beautiful or making a house into a home. And I have seen many many homes and I'm happy that others feel the same way as I do walking into their front doors...

Let the tour begin...

Front Porch:

The entryway:

Living Room: The teal and silver room with the big tree...

The Tree
 Mantle:

The dining room:

and what do orchids have to do with Christmas... nothing but that's me! I love them!

The breakfast Room/table:
Every year we have a huge breakfast Christmas morning so I threw this together last night for this post. Those are branches from my yard and the runner, plates, sleigh, and ornaments from the Christmas Tree Shop.

Family Room:

Tree #2, the Family Tree:

My style is typically elegant, however I do have some wimsy floating around...

Fireplace Redo Reveal!

OMG, I am so excited about this reveal. It was totally on a whim that I decided to make it over. I have always looked at my fireplace and said "what the heck am I going to do with you?" and finally I woke up the other morning and decided that was the day I was going to do something. That's how I roll. Like my impromptu trip to Boston for my birthday this year.

Anyway, I have been contemplating on painting my fireplace since we moved in 3 years ago and especially since the banister makeover. So without further ado here it is:

Before:

And here is how it all began:

Sorry about the horrible pics, upstate New York in December is really dark :(

I am planning on painting this wall the same color as the dining room, just so it pops a bit! I will post a tutorial of everything done soon!
Let me know what ya think, I love reading your comments!

So, I received a comment regarding my blue bow that I wanted to address...  My mantel is HUGE, like the biggest widest thing I have ever seen. The entire gas fire box is inside the house, not set into anything, so the box covering it is the mantel. From the pictures it may seem "crowded" but in real life it really isn't.  But I decided to take it off and to tell you the truth I like it both ways... The blue bow just works well with the tree, which is teal and blue.

Here are the updated pics...

Dollar Store Christmas Fun!

First of all, I want to thank you all for the BEST comments EVER! It really makes my day to think that others like me "work" Because, of course, decorating is my art!
So I thought I do a little post about some dollar store things I used around my house so far this year. I really find some great stuff...

First: Outside I was looking for the classic wreath with the red bow. I love the idea of real ones but with the wind in my area I didn't want to spend a ton or waste real tree branches.

So I found these 18 inch wreaths and bows for $1 each. Can't go wrong there! If they blow off, so what. However, they turned out so good that I bought some fishing line secured the bows as well as the wreath to the inside of my house.

Also, I wanted a fancy wreath for the new dining room. And I have seen this project a few times, so I decided to try it out!  And I love that too.

I used 5 packages of bulbs and 2 packages of ribbon!  $7 bucks!

I am sharing this post over at Project Queen's $10 dollar or less PARTY!

Have a great day!

Dining Room Reveal!

SO the time has come to reveal my dining room updates! I know it was great before but it shows the evolution of my taste and style. Even an avid decorator like me changes style often. Of course I took a meeeeellllion photos.

I'm sure as the season progresses my table will as well. But as for the dining room makeover, here is the before:

And here is the after:

Its much brighter and lighter. Before there was so much dark furniture just weighing everything down. Now, with the new chandelier, the light passes right through. Also, the lighter chairs give it a more elegant feel.

Follow along with me and stop back to see if I change it up!  Have a great day!
